All Poems, Holidays, Memorial Day

Stillness

Being with people animates me.

Fills me with energy.

The kind you get from chocolate or coffee.

So, it surprised me that I wanted stillness.

When gleeful children called their parents.

Asked to go here or there.

In the park.

I only wanted to hear weeping beeches sob.

Fountains cry.

Finches wail.

Frogs bellow.

Woodpeckers drum Taps.

After all, it is Memorial Day.
